I'm tired of buying a new one each time I get a new body. Are there any out there worth buying? I'm going to put it on a D800 without grip. I see some on ebay but have no clue if they are any good.
I'll stick with the custom fit design. I don't change camera bodies all that often. They're tools for me. there is no such thing as a universal tool that is one that allows all functionality on all things it is used on. I guess its all about compromise and what one is willing to accept.
I don't think a universal L bracket is good for your Nikon D800. Since the universal L plate will prevent the battery compartment from opening on the camera bottom and also prevet USB cable.
I also have custom fit L-plates and prefer that. But I can understand that many people think it's too expensive and buy universal plates. I own four bodies. To buy one L-plate for each of those from RRS, and ship them to Sweden would cost me $ 1300-1400
Promediagear has universal and custom plates. They are super nice to deal with and make a quality product that is less expensive than providers such as RRS.
yes they are and they use different methodology to produce which is less costly and not quite as robust (on their bigger body versions) to do so. as long as you accept that to save $40 that's fine. it all in the matter of relevance to use.
