I like to shoot BIF with a 7d and 100-400 canon lens. I have a manfrotto tripod with a R488RC2 ball head. Has anyone used one of those pistol grip mechanisms for better panning and stability? Are they worth the money, and which one would work for my setup? Thank- you
Most people don’t like to use long lenses on ball heads as the lens tends to flop over and require you to support it when you loosen it. With the 100-400 IS shooting hand held is probably the easiest way to shot flight. Gimbal heads are popular for heavy lenses and you can also use a pan tilt head for flight though many people will tell you this type of head is meant for video.
