p.1 #1 · Starry Night

This observation tower is in one of the state parks in Iowa. I had my astrotrac for more than 2 months but this is the first time I had time to test it out in the field.
Next time I will try to get a lower perpective to avoid the distant city lights and get more of the foreground. The light painting was done with Max million II brinkman. I found the light to be too powerful for this particular scene.
The foreground image- no tracking. ISO 100, F4 and 30 seconds.
For stars I used ISO 1000, F8 and 105 seconds with tracking.

I think this is very nice with pleasant light painting. The sky has a nice color. I am eager to see your next shot in this series! Diffraction spikes are a personal taste thing. For my viewing, I think a few stars would be fine, but not this many as it detracts from your main subject. Is there a subtle halo on the left of the tower edge?

Fantastic!

Great star color also. If this is a first try, I can't wait to see what you can do on later shots.

Thanks for sharing your first results.

Just when i was starting to forget about the astrotrac...boom there it is. I like this one very much. You can probably clone out those city lights

Thanks. I agree with you on diffraction spikes. I may have overdone it. This was done with an action set that I downloaded from internet.
The halo on the left side of the tower is from poor blending technique.( It was a quick test shot) I will try to do a better job next time.

+1) with my humble suggestion that the tower maybe somewhat toned down?

The diffraction spikes are a bit distracting, but I otherwise like the image.

Hey Harsha,

Very nicely done with this star shot. I do agree with Sunny, if it was mine, I would clone out all of the city lights in fact. But I would leave the lighting on the tower alone, maybe tone down the light on the grass and ground in front of it though.
