Oh, man! I just love this kind of street shooting- especially in "exotic" locations. And especially when it's well done as these are.
Give me more, Ratty. Me want MORE!
There are a couple things different from when I was last in Shanghai some 20+ years ago:
No fat cats lazing around on a city sidewalk (#1).
No fancy new vans selling hand bags (#3). No fancy vans at all! Back then there was almost NO private ownership of cars. And I love the vendor next to the van- selling whatever he's selling from a folding camping cot.
No females driving motor bikes (#5). She'd have been riding a bicycle, and her son wouldn't be riding like a western smart-ass

Yes, Shanghai (and all of China) has changed tremendously since your visits here. It's far more western now so you were lucky to go when it had a much more older feeling. I first came to China in 1997 so I caught a bit of the old China before things changed so dramatically.

A girl bouncing a soccer ball... shucks, in seven trips to China I never saw a single child (girl OR boy) playing with a ball.
Man in a wheel chair? Never saw any handicapped people. Our guides said they never left their apartments.
A girl wearing heels and short shorts? I never saw a hint of bare leg in 100 days of visiting.
Yes- things they are a-changing
