I have noticed that the bills of many spoonbills are damaged. I wonder what could be causing this? Alligators? Maybe it is the scanning motion underwater without knowing whats under there. If anyone has any idea please post it.
I am attaching an example below. C&C welcome
Thanks for looking
The shot was taken handheld with a Nikon D300, Nikkor300mm F4 and a Nikkor 1.7xE teleconverter for a combined focal length of 500mm.

Thanks for looking Martin. Its good to hear from you again. If it is a fish that caused the damage, then it must be quite a chomper Or maybe the beaks are much more fragile than they seem.
Have a wonderful evening

Thanks for looking. There are quite a few spoonbills this time of year in Louisiana. Check their bills out when you come across them. I hear the alligators are just as big and mean is Louisiana as they are in Florida.
Have a wonderful day.
