There is also a good discussion about that blog post here:

Looking at her examples of how guests jumped in front of her or blew out her exposure, I have to wonder why she doesn't know how to work around those circumstances.

This whole issue is very similar to the complaints videographers have about photographers getting into their footage.

If I see an over-eager beaver on the sidelines pre-processional, I'll give them a friendly reminder to stay out of the isle.

It looks desperate to have post like that. Makes her look like she cannot do the job (which i'm sure is not the case).

We also know many of those shots would have had another taken within a split second of the dud shot.

Another thing that always looks desperate is photographers posting stuff about the cost of shooting a wedding etc. I see a lot of that crap blogged or shared on facebook and those who do it might as well just say they are not doing so well and so need to vent.

I've been really, really wanting to shoot an unplugged wedding. They're good for business in more ways than one - Clients don't see their images before you get to them, no distracting clicks, focus beams, flash pops, shutter clicks, and people leaning into the aisle to blow your show. But ultimately, I truly believe the focus should be on JUST the people who are there getting married. And most people are really wanting to get just the right shot, instead of being present with their presence.

Anyway, I'd never demand a wedding be unplugged, but I certainly hope that people would at least consider it, if nothing else, during the ceremony.

I can go either way on this. Guest's cameras have never hindered me from getting my job done, but it can be annoying at times.

I have never had that many flash problems during a wedding but at a private fashion show the first few image I took were totally blown out. I mean like I have never seen before. I thought it was an equipment/flash issue until I saw how many pop up flashes were around me. Sad because the guest were paying a good amount for their teens to be in the show but ruining any chance of a good photo by trying to grab a shot themselves with full power on camera flash. I was just happy that day was over. I had done at least 40 shows for that company and had more bad shots that day than all the other shows together.

Being forced to stand in back of the church and have guest block the center during the whole ceremony is getting very common. You almost need an assistant for crowd control. Just to move people out of the way.

It's a blog. That's what a blog is for. To vent, a place to publish/voice your thoughts and opinions without the constraints of being concerned about public opinion.

Also I think they're right. It really is annoying when people do that. It doesn't make the job impossible but it does make it unnecessarily difficult and significantly diminishes the quality of the work when you have to settle for less than ideal angles because your view is obstructed or a great moment had the exposure blown due to an errant flash or orange focus assist light.

Whether it is valid or not is a separate issue to whether you want that public rant associated with your brand.

Eh...I think having no phones allowed at a wedding is good idea just on face-value. I mean usually that's case at church, anyway.

In 130+ weddings I've caught guest flashes maybe two or three times, and there are plenty of guests taking photos at my weddings. Maybe the genius needs to stop taking long exposure shots.

The 'best' problem I lately encounter is guests taking photos with IPADS! Oh my...it stands out like
an eye sore. So anoying.

Read some replies there and here. Can't believe so many photographers who are so bad at...photography, they are attacking the skills of the photog who posted the article.
If you shoot manual and use available light as much as possible, any flash other than what you set up ruins a picture. It may be your style to shoot at low ISO and a lot of flash and underexpose, but some photographers limit their flash use...

Truth is, that blog is not going to do anything. It's just for the photographer to vent, but some clients may see it as negativity, which isn't good for business.
