This is three horizontal frames stitched into one vertical. I also shot it as a single vertical frame, but then I got only a bit of sky above the mountains, omitting much of the drama in the clouds. It was a bear to shoot and process this one (it involved not only stitching, but focus stacking and exposure blending in addition), but I really wanted this perspective, so I decided to roll up my sleeves and go for it.
I like this. I notice that no one has commented, so it's not grabbing people.
I think that unlike the usual cry to tone down the saturation, this one could really use more color. It just needs some more post work, because the elements are there, pretty flowers in the foreground (the foreground really needs to pop more), mountains in the middle, and a dramatic sky up top. If the foreground is darkened and saturated a bit the almost black stripe of trees won't dominate so much (maybe the trees could be lightened a bit too). Just my friendly thoughts on a photo that is almost there
It's a lovely image with very nice elements. I can see why you put in the extra effort for this composition. I would agree with Kelly about toning down the highlights, especially the foreground.
Thanks so much to you all for your thoughts. And here I thought that maybe it had too much saturation to begin with. I can't possibly be seeing this photo clearly right now after putting together its many pieces had me staring at it for so many hours, so I really appreciate the feedback.
Kelly and Tuan, I posted a revised version incorporating your suggestions (now in the original post).
alatoo60, do you mean an even wider view or a crop of this one? This is already three horizontal frames, each at 17mm, stitched together vertically (a.k.a. a "vertorama").
Beautiful three-dimensional clouds in the sky.
The foreground was a great fine and added great interest to the comp.
WTB: I like what you did on the revision.
Best,
Fred
