p.1 #1 · The little watchman - Print shown

This time in Bryce.

Earlier in the day when i had gone to town to get gas, it started snowing heavily...big flakes. When i was done the snow had stopped, clouds parted and the sun was shining...the eye of the storm was overhead. I drove back to Bryce in hopes it would snow again, but it didn't. About half hour later i could see the 2nd storm moving in at a distance, wind picked up...things started to get dark, you could hear the thunder in the distance and see lighting behind bryce point. I took out my gear and settled in at this spot after walking back and forth between sunrise and sunset point.
Another half hour or so and a HUGE wall of clouds just rolled over Bryce point and started descending into the valley, the wind by now was stronger and lashing me in the face with tiny droplets of water and ice crystals...i setup the tripod and the camera, wiping the lens every other minute as i was facing the storm head on. As the clouds started to engulf the valley, the sun shone through on some of the hoodoos, at that point i started to capture this pano, quickly moving composing, focusing, shifting left to right, bracketing, refocusing to get tree and then the hoodoos..shift...do the same thing...shift...do it all over ...all the while the ice was pelting me. My hands turned red from the coldness..i think my nose fell off.

About 10 minutes later the whole valley was covered with clouds.

5D III, 24 TSE, bracketed several shots (27), manual focus

Edit: The print just came today. 30x75 on Metallic paper...it GLOWS! the print is from diff files but same comp.

30x75 on metallic paper...now to find a frame for it.

Lovely view, Sunny, Bryce certainly is a magical place and if you're patient it can deliver some great results as you obtained here
The quality of this image looks very poor, its quite soft, just wondering if its been downsized in a strange way as your other Zion image looks a lot better
cheers Andrew

Hey Sunny,

How funny... the Little Watchman... cool title. What a sweet shot, the detail I got to see in this when you showed it to me today is just incredible! I would not say the shot is soft, it looks sharp to me, maybe a little crunchy actually. Downsizing large shots like this can be a pain.

Sunny,

Are you saying that in May 7 Bryce Canyon had heavy snow?
Nice image you have.
My impression on this photo is not crunchy at all.
Perhaps 27 images bracketed made the final product to be somewhat soft?

Kee

Great composition! Love it. Wish the light was better but I would not change anything really. Worth going again and again.

The JPG down conversion does not do the image justice. Best way if using lightroom is to limit file size to forum maximum on export and stay with widths of about 950 pixels.

27 shots is not "several" Sunny, it's a crap load!
Your results are spectacular in any case!

Hi Andrew,
Thank you for the feedback and the help via Email. I changed the photo since we last exchanged email. I'll see how it looks on print.

Love it!! Grand landscape what's not to love. Rich color, clarity (especially around the roots) and darn great atmospherics. Great crop ratio as well. Very well seen and executed. PRINT!!

Best,

Jose
