Meyson, I understand you're searching for a lens for your 60D. I think you should focus more on what range of focal lengths is suitable for your need, rather than the best pictures that someone else has taken. Both 24-105L and 17-55 IS, and even 15-85 IS, are all capable lenses and they're not that much apart in term of image quality. I believe, say, at 24mm, I can produce just about the same image from either lens.

That said, I find that the lens like 24-105L is not good on cropped. I even tried to use it when carrying two cropped bodies: one with 24-105L and one with 10-22. (I normally carry two bodies.) And I still find it didn't work for me mainly because it's not wide enough. Even 17-55 IS and 10-22 on two bodies didn't work for me because it doesn't have enough reach.

In the end, the solution that worked for me when I used two cropped bodies was 15-85 IS in one body and 35L or 24L II in another.

So, the bottom line is I think you should find the range that works for you.

If I recall, the following were taken with that lens, all at the wide end:

I found that lens to be very sharp and contrasty and the IS worked well, and the f/2.8 was really useful to me. My biggest peeve was barrel distortion, though it wasn't really bad for a normal zoom.

I tried to find the best image I had showing off the IS capabilities. This one isn't that great, but it's something. I also added the settings to the other low light portrait from my earlier post.

Water tower at night - 20mm, 0.6sec shutter, f2.8, ISO 800

I'm pretty sure I've done a handheld 1 sec exposure before that was sharp and clear. I don't know if I can find it, though.

It's a great little optic and rarely left my APS cameras back in the day. I don't use it much anymore as 17mm often isn't wide enough for me.

Really happy with this lens! One day I'll have a full-frame too, but since I shoot mostly wildlife the crop body is best for me.

#1 One of my favorite/best landscape images

#2 Aurora shot this past March.
