With Adobe's recent announcement, I have decided to move toward pulling all Adobe products from my workflow.
I currently use Photoshop CS4 for:
1) Basic RAW adjustment,
2) as a host to call up my NIK plug in suite, and
3) minor and infrequent final fixes (cloning out objects, etc.)
I know many on the board favor Adobe Lightroom, but I was wondering how others feel about potentially using:
1) Aperture,
2) Capture One, or
3) something else ?
For basic RAW adjustments ?
What are your plans for the future of your workflow
I use Aperture, and pretty much always have. It works, but it's overly due an upgrade. One thing I like about it is the strictly non-linear/freeform workflow (i.e. the software doesn't force you to have a certain develop->process->export etc. workflow so you can find out what's best for you).
Alongside Aperture I occasionally use Pixelmator for small other changes (that I guess would typically be done in Photoshop), but the majority of the time my images don't leave Aperture.
I've tried Dx0 in the past. It's great for distortion correction (Aperture doesn't do that sadly), but overall it's not really what I'm used to, so I've only used it in a few cases where distortion issues have been a clincher.
I'm an Aperture user and still love it. Love the fact you can add multiple curve layers and brush them all in to you hearts content. It could use a refresh but it's still an exceptionally capable piece of software.
I use Aperture, i love it......i find it way faster than Lightroom, as far as how quickly you can get around within the interface.....you can actually make your OWN keyboard shortcuts in Aperture, where as in LR, you're stuck with theirs (unless you buy VSCO Keys).....But i have a feeling you're talking about alternatives to Photoshop.....In that case, probably either PaintShop Pro (only on windows), or GimpShop......

I'm just going to switch to 100% film! Down with the greedy corporations!
I agree w/ you, except for the corporation being led by Adam Smith's "Invisible Hand", whose greed will motivate them to take advantage of Adobe's attempt to take advantage of the consumer, and thereby better meet our needs.

It is an affectation, indeed, not very common among merchants, and very few words need be employed in dissuading them from it."
I looked into what alternative programs there are for myself where I could keep using my plug-ins. Besides Photoshop, my plug-ins only work with Elements. But the problem is that I've heard you can't CREATE actions in Elements. (You can USE some actions in Elements that were CREATED IN Photoshop.) Half of what I do in Photoshop involves actions. Since I need my plug-ins and I need to create actions, I don't see any route other than Photoshop.
I have been using Aperture since day 1, having tried LR a few times but never quite getting the hang of it enough.
It is plenty capable, just missing a few things like lens correction.
Nothing comes close to Photoshop's' power. There is no competition to Photoshop. They have a monopoly. They know it. We are powerless. I'll fight the good fight. But I believe we will lose in the end.
