has anybody added their own cropmarkss or composition guides to their reflex mirrors?
i'm thinking of ohp markers, though difficult to remove, creates a very thin line...
I don't think you'll be able to see crop marks on your mirror because it's not in the plane of focus. You can't see the dust on your mirror nor the partially silvered spots for the AF module to see through.
A focusing screen replacement with custom marks on it (not sure how to do it) is the only way to go.
Any "crop marks" MUST be on the upper (flat) matte surface of the focusing screen. Any marks (dirt, dust, scratches) on the reflex mirror are never in focus in a DSLR viewfinder system.
since my d7000 there have been crop marks/composition grid features built into the camera - no need for a grid screen like I had in the F3HP any longer.
Third party replacement focus screens are available for many cameras (up to about d700/D7000 vintage), usually split image for MF glass, but also with grid lines (e.g. Katzeye)

Not as "very thin" as you might think. This is how "fine" a 0.6mm OHP marker line will appear in the viewfinder when drawn on a 24x36mm (FX/35mm) focusing screen ...
