If anyone is familiar with Mr Ascough's work (and ramblings) they may find this of interest. It seems he's launched his new site, and actually does work other than weddings now, by which I mean 'boudoir'. Pretty sure he's said he dislikes taking 'portraits' like this in the past, and won't do anything other than weddings, but y'know, hey...
Even includes his landscape imagery on the same website... isn't that supposed to be a marketing faux-pas, i.e., mixing different markets on the same URL?
The wedding market is becoming increasingly harder. Many photographers are having to branch out to other things. At least that's my guess with this thread.
He explains it pretty well on his website. From what I recall, he's always had landscapes there in some capacity. I think he may have labeled them 'personal' or something to that effect. I'm sure enough people have asked about prints....may as well make some $$$ out of it.

...that people change their minds? Life isn't linear? The only constant in life is change? What? What?

Couldn't be more wrong, Jeff certainly is not doing the boudoir and landscape images because he needs the income.

One never knows... Cliff Mautner has stated that he hasn't raised his prices since 2008, and even though he shot weddings 50+ in 2012, that booking them wasn't easy.
For the people who have plenty of business to turn away- congrats. I wish that were the case w/ all of us.

Yep, just because someone has high prices doesn't mean their business is super profitable. No one can know unless they see his numbers.

I have met Jeff a few times, and been on 2 day seminars of his, and really learnt a lot about how he runs his business. Whilst I obviously don't know his bottom line, I'm very confident in saying that what he might hope to make from boudoir is not going to have a big impact on his business. He built a very strong reputation for himself and has reached the point where he makes his job easier for himself wherever possible such as rarely travelling out of his local area for weddings and the way he provides images and albums to his clients. (Want to know more? Attend his seminar!)
From seeing his work change over the last few years, even the way he uses/chooses his equipment now, I think his motivation has simply changed a little, and I think this is why he's keen to show and shoot more non-wedding work.
