Yep - looking at the Buy & Sell section, the asking price for used is often more than the Canon referb with 90 day warranty. I always check Canon site to at least set my base-line for price of used equipment. I've had very good luck with purchases from Canon referb.
Recently bought a refurb 400mm 5.6L for $975 including tax and shipping....awesome piece of lens..looks brand new and tack sharp even with 1.4x mk3...i feel its better to go refurb than used ones, if you can find a refurb one..

Comparing an on sale price of an out of stock item, to the price you can actually pay and get an item?
It is true that many lenses are out of stock, but whenever I have been in the market for a lens, I check the Canon refurb site a couple times a day and have always found what I wanted to come back in stock within a week or two.
WIth the sale going on things get picked over pretty quickly.
Can't seeing paying more $$$ on the B&S forum. Some great deals on the B&S forum but some of the prices there are most new prices (often seems to be cause the lens or body were broken out of a kit).
This is the second time I have gone there to get a 16-35mmL that says it is in stock only to get a message that there is not enough inventory. Somebody needs to fix there ordering system!
I have never bought a lens from Canon Refurb, though i did pickup a 580ex II for 399.00 a couple months back, and it was literally in brand new condition. When i saw the 100-400mm at 1155.00 last week, i pulled the trigger. Just too good of a price. I am hoping i get a good copy, and am a bit concerned it will not come with the stock case, as it (the case), came up as on option, when i added the 100-400 to the cart. Does anyone know if the refurbs typically come with the stock hood and case a new unit would come with?
I purchase a Canon 100-400 referb a few months ago. Came with exactly the same stuff as a new one (caps, case, hood, booklet). I remember that the option for the case came up when I ordered also, just ignore.
My copy is like new and just a great lens. I think that since the referbs are all looked at by a tech, there is less chance of getting a bad copy.
They sell out very quickly. There are some buyers who purchase large quantities and resell on ebay or other places. I wish they would limit sale items to one per customer.

I heard it from somewhere that there is a limit of 3 or 5 per item per order. Not sure if you can order more in different order though.
Yep, these sales wipe out inventory quickly. There were many great lens instock at the start of this sale though. My biggest regret was seeing the 1-day 30% of sale on new years day when it just went live. The 5D3 was instock and was the cheapest I've ever seen it period; unfortunately I didn't bite the bullet.
Seems like if you want a specific thing right now the refurb store isn;t the place to go, if you have time to play the system you can get a great deal. The 1d Mark 2 I got a few years ago was a great price and pretty much new but I didn;t need it right away.
