AMaji's excellent image of a sleeping or reclining Buddha (in Japan) reminded me that I had some reclining Buddha shots taken many years ago. This post will be the first of several.
The image was taken in the late 1960s in the old Thai capital of Ayutaya- northwest (?) of Bangkok.
All the ruins of Ayutaya were in similar disrepair because way back then tourism outside of Bangkok was sparse, and maintaining such structures was very expensive.
I spent most of the day wandering through the ruins and saw few people- none of whom were tourists.
The Reclining Buddha was big- but probably only 80-100 feet long.
Note the person in the lower right.
Thanks AMaji and Mr. Mouse .
I agree about the "respect" thing...
And yet, wandering around ancient ruins that LOOK ruined has a definite appeal to me as a traveler.
