Bought this lens from Amazon.....made a microadjust on it and it was razor sharp at F1.4 like everyone says....Then after about a week, I was shooting some product closeups for an FM ad and I heard this squeak.....like someone forgot the lubricate the focusing mechanism...It persisted so I am sending it back....I may try another one because it is sharp but Sigma did something wrong with this lens when they made it....Let me know if anyone else here in Canon Land has had the same experience with the lens.
Don't you forget that this forum is for Sigma lovers and Canon haters ...? Now wait for 5 pages of stories that this is amazing lens cost much less etc...
No problems with my Canon lenses! Well there is the 24-70II in the shop right now and the original in two times but other than that. . . well I had to send in my 135L but other than that. . . well. .

So how much is the 35 1.4? :^)
I bought my copy for around 900$ (actually 870.- swiss francs)

That reminds me of the Jaguar motorcar experience a few decades ago. "Excellent build" using the finest British workmanship, and yet, the vehicles had very high failure rate, from the electrical systems onward.

Yeah breitling, because it is so unreasonable that a brand new lens that is brand new in design and development is a better built or better performer than the canon offering...
35L is quiet old lens, when Canon will offer new model - we will compare. Not fair at this point.

Are you serious about the "it's not fair" bit. Who cares about what the future might bring ( and what price tag it might have ), today is today and all you got is the old 35L.

(not sure why my first post was deleted).
It doesn't matter if the Canon lens is 100 years old at this point.
Right now you get a Canon 35L or a Sigma 35. The Sigma is cheaper new than the Canon is used. The Sigma rivals the Canon...for less. These are facts. It doesn't make the Canon perform any worse, it just has something possibly better than it out.
When Canon offers a new 35L, we can rest assured that we can compare them then. Then it will be a discussion of "is the Canon 35L worth 4X what the sigma is?"
Sorry, but the agument that it "isn't far" at this point is weak, at best.

I own 3 copies of 35L and I know all weak points of this lens, but I prefer to stay with it until we will test 35LII and see possible differences. I am not sure why I would jump on such old lens with critics now. It is as it is and millions of sharp and great shots made with it by many people already printed and sold This Sigma lens cost about same as I paid for my first 35L 7 years ago, so?
Canon is not reading these threads and will release new one as soon as they will think it is good for them, not because of some Sigma lens or that you like it so much. Any new lenses Canon releasing is way better than old, just wait or shot with new but squeaking Sigma.

Your post made me chuckle. In the mid 70s my Dad had a Jag, and I can still remember the look of absolute pain on his face everytime I slammed the doors, he would shake his head and then we would check that the electric windows still worked.
