p.1 #1 · Useful android apps for photography?

With good 7" tablets in the market now, I decided to dock my Ipad at home and carry the smaller tablet when I am in the field. I am not familiar with apps on this platform and wondering what are the android based photographic apps people found useful. So far i have TPE, US tides and Weather Pro,

p.1 #3 · Useful android apps for photography?

My wife and I took a trip to Guanajuato for Easter weekend and I wanted a sun/moon position app. I had always heard about The Photographer's Ephemeris (TPE) and I came very close to buying it but I ended up buying Sun Surveyor instead.

The cool thing that Sun Surveyor has that I believe is still lacking in TPE is the Augmented Reality view mode. With it I can set the date and time and, using the phone's camera, see a view of where I'm pointing the camera on my phone's display with an artificial sun or moon super-imposed on the view. It is remarkably accurate and really helps get an idea of when the sun or moon will be peeking over a hill or be obscured by a nearby building, etc.. Pretty cool.

This is not specifically photography related but if I lived in the States, I would definitely use Field Trip, particularly when traveling. It gives you info about nearby points of interest based on your location. Google Now has a little bit of this functionality and that is what I use in Mexico but Field Trip looks to be more in-depth and gets decent reviews.

This is definitely not photography-related but if you like an occasional game, take a look at Google's virtual reality game, Ingress. It is sort of an electronic version of "capture the flag" and it uses your phone's GPS. The only reason I mention it is that the "portals" are often located at points of interest (statues, museums, parks, etc.) and it can be kind of fun while you're driving or walking around. I find it helps me get off my butt and get a little exercise. There are also geo-caching apps available that might be a little less nerdy and might work better for remote areas.

For Canon shooters take a look at DSLR Controller.
I use it on a Nexus 7 tablet for tethered shooting; the A-B pull feature is awesome for shooting stacks for macros.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 & Nexus 10. Apps I like:

1) Lightmeter (no ads) by David Quiles. Evaluate light before starting to shoot; important if you are using the camera in the smartphone.
2) Camera apps: stock Samsung camera app (extensive features), ProCapture, Camera FV-5 and PerfectShot Unlimited (Paper Camera, primarily a novelty). Each of these camera apps will excel under certain conditions. PerfectShot uses the sensors in the camera to try and take the picture when movement is minimized ... when it works, it yields very sharp images under conditions where you probably are not going to get a sharp image.
3) Dropbox: automatically uploads images as they are taken to the cloud (or when you get back to your WiFi connection).
4) Post Processing: Photoshop Touch, Snapseed, Pixlr Express. Snapseed is impressive for simple tweaks.
5) Presentation: stock Samsung Gallery app.
6) Other: DOF Calculator (Cunning Dog Software).
