I'm after a smaller and more portable computer than my 17" MacBook Pro. The MS Surface Pro is due for release here in Oz this month and I'd like to know if those of you who have tried using it for photography are still happy enough with it to recommend it over a different small laptop. I expect to keep the 17" as my main computer and use the other one short term whenever I'm travelling light or whenever it is the better thing to use.
An iPad is unsuitable and so is the Surface RT. A Windows box has the advantage of being usable with Windows-only software for my GPS, mobile phone, etc., but I expect that I'll also have Lightroom and Office on it.
Until I changed to Mac I was a Windows XP die-hard and never got into Vista or Windows 7. I've been told that Windows 8 is easier to manage than those two but I will still need to do a bit of learning. Although I could put Windows 8 on my MBP it would still not be sufficiently portable and of course the MBP will not let me benefit from the new Surface interface.
I'd appreciate any useful advice or comments about adopting a Surface Pro.
I was very close to pulling the trigger on one. Then I learned that neither Adobe nor Corel support the pressure-sensitivity implementation on the stylus. I am holding out for official support of that capability before shelling out for a Surface Pro.
Thanks Arka. That is not a high priority for me because I have never used it but I guess that once you are used to having it you would always want it. However, for a mobile computer for short-term usage I can manage without it.
