I headed to the Crystal Basin area in El Dorado National Forest this weekend and to my shock there was a small Aspen grove prior to the turn off to Icehouse Reservoir. I got out of my car and my heart sank. There was a large bulldozer that was sitting there not being used over the weekend but the damage was everywhere. Why would someone take a bulldozer and basically wipe out 60% of this Aspen grove in the middle of nowhere? Amazingly senseless. Hopefully they will leave the grove that is left. There is something about these trees that is haunting.
