I don't remember the make of these touring cars, but they are the originals from way back in the middle of the 20th century- or earlier. They had recently been updated mechanically for safety and reliability.
I was offered a job driving and narrating them and was keenly interested until the transportation manager told me that I'd be earning minimum wages, I'd have to pay for my room and board in the dorm (out of my salary), and I'd have to shave off my beard.
I could have survived the other things because becoming one of their "Gear-Jammers" would have been right up my alley- and seeing that country every day would have been a blast.
But shave off my beard? "Why in the hell is THAT necessary, sir?"
So I hit the road.
