I have a question pertaining to the subject system with use of a single Nikon SB-800. The subject works well for a single subject, but I'm wondering how effectively it might work for a family grouping.
Thanks for any insight you may be able to provide.

You could definitely light a small family 3 to 4. More than that maybe but I've never tried it. Of course that is all dependent on ambient light and how much power you need.

You have some nice fast glass, and coupled with your D800 -- which is capable of high image quality at comparatively high ISO settings -- you should have no trouble lighting family groups of "typical" size.

As you move the light back to get a larger spread for the larger group, the quality of the light may be different than when using it for a solo portrait, but that difference isn't a negative, just a another "look."
