You mean shutter slosh?
Not very loud and the silent mode is even more nausiating.
I like the loud clack of the D3 better, but you can easily hear that across the room.

Quietest camera I've ever owned.

Well just got my 7100 and off to Florida in a day. Went to the beach and shot a few in the parking lot out the window..First Impressions.Auto Focus is Steller. In AF-C stays locked in and the transistions are smooth as silk. You can shoot at 3200 iso and pictures are really clean.Resolution is fantastic also. Now off to find some Reddish Egrets

thx.

nauseating is good when you're trying to take a picture of your daughter as she is singing her solo at the high school choir concert. d3 shooters are usually escorted from the auditorium.....(and rightly so).

so about the same as d7k or even d600?

or could i dare to hope for the whisper quiet levels of the 5d mkIII?

I just got mine tonight and haven't been able to shoot anything but a badly lit room so far as it's dark outside.

My initial observations / criticisms:
The metering mode is not displayed in the viewfinder, which is annoying and the metering selection button is in an annoying position.
The Fn button is very hard to reach - it's a little finger jobby, which is just weird.
I set my Fn button to be used as temporary spot metering, but because of point 1 I'm not sure if it's working properly without removing my eye from the viewfinder.
The ridge on the grip beneath the shutter is very sharp after a while.
I like the quick ISO adjustment feature that can be assigned to the rear dial.
I think I will grow to like the U1 and U2 modes instead of having shooting banks as in the D300/D2H I've used.
AF seems at least as good as the D300.
From what I can see on the cameras screen the high ISO is a lot better than the D300.
The + & - buttons on the back are the wrong way around!

My new way of determining if Nikon consider a camera a "pro" camera: The model number is written on the strap.

Okay it was a dark and stormy night - sleet and rain and even some snow. I had to shoot from up in the stands because I didn't want to get all wet so I was some distance from the field and much higher up than I usually like to be.

Anyway I wanted to see how the D7100 compared to my old D7000 under some bad high school lights, still shooting jpegs. Overall it looks like a a stop better than the D7000. I could pretty easily shoot at 6400 with the D7100 and get decent shutter speed while that was not possible with the D7000. Also the AF tracked really well in the poor lighting - way fewer misses from the D7100. Kind of noisy so maybe I should shoot raw and clean them up in PP? Never really done that in the past though.

(Second shot below is at 12800)

All in all very happy with the D7100 for the kind of shooting I do.

Few drive by shots (w/my 460 running) from high noon today
The clouds cleared and I wasn't especially picky about my targets. Just sayin'

Here are some crap samples from my evening in the dark with this camera. Mostly high ISO. this blows the socks off the D300 in terms of sharpness at high ISO. It retains a huge amount of detail.

The first ever shot on this camera. Small WB adjustment. ISO 100

The only AF issue I had was with the white bird - the camera would lock focus onto the blue edge of the water basin, even with center point focus. I had a bunch of misses because of that.

Have you ever done a test to see how big is the actual size of that center focus point? I've heard it's bigger than the tiny focus square. Always good to know the actual size of the focus point.

Thanks Doug, how do those look at 100%? I think the 300/4 plus TC will be my next lens purchase.

Couple more samples from the yard, 70-200 f/4, this time using C-AF and all points.

Except for the first shot the others are about 50% crops. With the limited amount of shooting I have done with it so far 100 shots.the files are much cleaner then the d7000.I did some side by side shots with the d7000 and d7100.The d7100 seems to be 1 1/2 stops better in iso and dynamic range.small differences up to 1600 iso then after that the d7100 shines..night and day.
