p.2 #2 · Nikkor 1200-1700mm f/5.6-8 to capture new Pope!
Did anyone pay attention that he used a Canon Camera? Look at the photo of him and look at the camera, and the strap - it ain't NO NIKON Cam at the back end!!!
Maybe I am missing an inside joke here but the pictures in Fred's link of the setup CLEARLY show that he is using a Nikon camera with that lens......

You recognize Camera makes by the strap attached to them - very sophisticated, indeed...

No, it is not a Canon camera or its strap.
It is a Nikon F4/e/p/s film camera with a Nikon Professional Service strap.
Look at the white strip on top of the view finder below the hot shoe, it is the view finder exposure meter window follow by the word Nikon below it. On the top right side of the camera is the shutter speed dial with a smaller exposure mode dial next to it.
The strap he is using is the Nikon Professional Service strap which is black with a thin red pin strip on one edge and the yellow word "Nikon" as show on the left side hanging while there is a bigger "Nikon" word in the middle which is not shown in the picture and the statement "Nikon Professional Service" in smaller letters on the right which is shown in the picture wrapping over the grip.
I recognize it because I am still shooting film with my F4s and have the same straps on it as well as my D800.
So! which means we have not seen his pictures yet because it will need time to have it process, scan and post.

Ahhh.... no, it clearly says "Nikon" on the camera body.

Yes but he had to RESORT to a NIKON LENS that Canon does not make. On the other hand, as I can surmise, Nikon shooters do not have the need to put canon lenses on the Nikon cameras.

The local AP guy that is also working for our paper has sent the photos in, and he was using a 800/5.6L with 2x TC on a 1D X. Still doesn't seem very sharp.

Holy mother of all things gigantic! I didn't know this lens existed.
I'm curious what lens was used for video during the Pope coverage. I could tell at least one of them was a very large tele due to being able to notice atmospheric distortion. Some of the live footage was a little "wavy", similar to heat wave distortion. Sorry, I don't know the technical terms for these types of distortion.
