Hey John, thanks for your comments! I agree about Georgia being a very photogenic gymnast and it's fun to watch her mature. She has struggled of late with putting together a complete all-around performance. She's fallen on beam a couple of times, and at this meet had an unusual fall on bars. To her credit, she recovered very nicely to earn a 9.9 on beam and 9.975 on floor, both of which were career highs for her. Once she puts it all together she will be hard to beat....but always fun to photograph. I hear what you are saying with your comments about blocked faces and the angles from which I'm shooting. As you know, it's hard to get it all 'right' in the same shot. With #1, if I'm head-on to her, I have other issues (see Guy's comments above). With beam, I'm trying to mix it up a bit and have shot from the other side, so when all is said and done at the end of the season, I hope to have the best angles for all of the various 'moments' in the routines. Regarding ISO, I'm just a wimp! I have it in my head I don't want to go above 5000 (which I use for vault), so I'm shooting mostly at 4000 and, with the 85/1.2 I figured I'd take advantage of its light-sucking properties and go even lower. You probably are right, though, in suggesting the difference at higher ISOs would not be very noticeable. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
Rob: Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the images (and the blog post).
MakoShark: Thank you. I hope you find an opportunity to shoot gymnastics. Challenging? Yes. But it can be very rewarding as well.
