Great thread! These postings continue to stoke my fire to get a 17 TS-E.
I know it's been covered somewhere, but I had hard time searching for this piece of info: I know the 17 TS-E will work with Canon teleconverters, especially the 1.4X variety. Does anyone know if there is an IQ advantage or disadvantage between the 1.4X version II and version III converters? I've heard there is a slight decline in IQ when using with the 17, but perhaps one is sharper than the other?
Thanks for the photos and topic, Psychic. Please publish more if you have them.
You can also get the 1.4 TC effect, no loss in F stop and the luxury of an, effectivly, larger image circle (the limiting factor for tilts and shifts) by mounting your 17mm TSE on a crop sensor body.
As to 1.4X II and III IQ: I believe the major advantage in MK III IQ is in the, optically challenged 2.0 TC (even the, veteran, Bikon 1.7TC is well regard and works well for me). The other MK III improvements have to do with newer Great Whites and AF which has no meaning on a MF TSE.
As to tripods: Useful but not essential if you refine the peculiar technique needed with the MF TSEs. Also don't be shy about adjusting the geometry in Adobe's RAW converter because, at the RAW level, you won"t compromise IQ.

I don't find the crop IQ of my 60D to equal my 1Ds3 or 5D2, plus would add quite a bit more bulk to carry an extra body than to the extender. At that point, I would maybe just bring my 24 TS-E along too. But a little 1.4X would be a lot handier than either 24 TSE or second body. I will certainly give this a try on the 1D3, where it comes out to about 22mm and a load of movements. But the big downside of the extender is the loss of a stop of light.
I didn't quite get what you are saying regarding the difference in IQ between the II or III on 1.4X. Are you saying there is no improvement for TSE lenses, only 2X versions and tele lenses?
I agree about the tripod thing -- I seldom use one with TSE unless longer exposure is needed. And I agree about what I call primping the final image in LR to make it square and cropped exactly.

I took the plunge today with a good deal on eBay. Should be shipping soon and in my hands. I'm jazzed to complete my TSE collection with my most desired model. Needless to say, I won't be buying any fancy lenses for a while!
Beautiful shots, but since you state that they were taken with "no lens correct at all", I can't help but wondering what the Canon 14mm rectilinear lens would do....
Very nice perspective in the Ground Zero pic and everything is in focus, foreground to background. Can you provide the EXIF data?
I also find the electronic level indicator very useful on the 5D3, though hand-held this is not so easy to manage.
Got it!
Got the MA adjusted on three bodies (for focus confirm), so need to see in real situations.
(When using a tripod, I'll use LV.)
Waiting for sunny weather to do some comparisons to other lenses.
Thanks for the inspiration!

That's been tried before by rent-a-cops. They actually tried to stop a news crew IIRC. Threatened lawsuits brought an education of the cops.
Some really nice photography there. Love the clock.
Great shots. Really a testimony of the usability of a TSE-17. It is high on my wish list. Still see some distortion on photo #2. But given the circumstances and the angle used it is very mild. I am curious how sharpness / resolution holds up when tilted and/or shifted...
