Thanks.
Ya know, I thought of this after I posted the image last night, but this is a great example of how images might sell to parents that we as photographers wouldn't ever deem as a good image. Without the context of me explaining the shot, it's just two people hugging. But as a parent, this image is priceless.
So true, Scott. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the technical side (which is also important, don't get me wrong), that it is easy to lose sight of the emotional value of capturing a moment.
Scott, I completely agree with you. By adding the context - like you did with your photo - it makes it an even more powerful image …
Here's my submission. Not the best photo, but it's nonetheless special to me. My daughter is the goalie in the photo and she was swarmed by her team mates at the end of the game … each game they do this. They congratulate her whether they win (not very often) or lose (most of the time). The kids love playing this sport and they play for each other. This particular photo is special to me because my daughter stopped a penalty shot with 18 seconds on the clock in a tied game. She made an incredible stop … stoned the shooter cold to preserve a tie. Her team mates were chanting her name and the parents in the stands did the same. When the buzzer sounded, the girls mobbed her. She was so thrilled with herself and the fact that she heard her name being chanted by our team & parents was icing on the cake.
When I showed her the photos of her save & her team congratulating her, she said she liked this one the best because her friends were in it. She has a 5x7 print of this on her night table.

Great shot, Dennis. I shot the Bulls last night and I was surprised by what a sporadically emotional guy he is (and by sporadic I mean I was never ready for it when it happened ).
Thanks, Russ. Yeah, Thibs is a real treat to photograph. His sporadic emotional outbursts are almost always in response to a bad call (as perceived by him) or a pivotal moment in the game, as in the shot above when the Bulls forced an "over and back" which resulted in the winning basket. I have an unfair advantage regarding knowing when to look for him being animated, though, having shot dozens of games of "his" Bulls.
A little late to getting my own action image posted, but I had some time today to look back through January images.
Here's one from the Oklahoma at Kansas State basketball game a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for looking. I look forward to seeing what shows up in the February thread.

I had some nice jube shots in January, but this one is still my favorite: The legendary Pat Summitt posing in front of her banner before its raising (taken from the rafters).
