However, it appears to be a regular old Mocker.

I like shots like this, some areas of detail are left to the mind
Not at all finding fault here, a rather difficult shot to balance and overall it is nicely balanced. It does look like focus went to mid eye and down rather than complete area but still works nicely, my thought was to emphasize a bit more for a stronger focal point the eye/area of eye?

You are so right.
No excuses here but here are the facts. The camera was set on my BIF settings, center point expanded, in the center, on a tripod. I looked up and saw this bird on a branch. I moved a bit and did not have time to change to spot focus and move the focus point to the eye (in other words, change the focus point in camera). He was only there a few seconds and left.
That's not an excuse but I know the eye is not in good focus. I debated whether or not to put this up but in the end decided to because its the only picture of a mockingbird I ever took, I liked the background, I liked the light, but I didn't like the fact I had his butt.
But, what are you going to do? You get what you get.
I always find it amusing when people say to "zoom with your feet", particularly when the other side of the bird was marsh/swamp/lake and if I moved, the bird would be gone. So funny. The colors are from the OOF branches by the water. So I got what I got.
