Two great images, simplicity of the first and placement of the tree is wonderful, curves, slopes and shadowing add nice depth.
#2 powerful sky, loving the blues and grays and whites of the cloud and steam. Again the placement of the tree is wonderful and add the 'frosting' to it and that tops off the entire image Excellent!

Nigel. #1 is my fav! I don't agree, but understand, about eliminating the "black dots".
But they explain why the wind swept slope has reduced the snow to near grass level, hence the grass,brush being exposed.
