My 24-70 sits in the shadows most of the time unless I'm shooting a wedding or event, my 50mm on the other hand stays on my d700 for the most part, I also carry my wide angle everywhere. 70-200 on weddings/events too.
Get the 50mm f/1.8D, one of the best values in the Nikon line. The 85mm f/1.8G, which I have not used, has a good reputation. F/1.4 lenses are in the "if you have to ask, don't buy one" category.
Ok I purchased a used 24-70 and got a 85 1.4g yeah yeah over budget I know but I just did my sisters wedding and the 85 1.4 was magical. The reach really mattered to me and the back grounds bokeh was like. Butter lol the 24-70 was amazing in the church and outside on a cloudy day for group pics. The 24 mm helped a lot with the groups...the 85 q1.4 was unreal but the 24-70 was my work horse.. Over all it was my best shoot ever thanks for all the help great advice
