If it has ECF I'd buy it. Better CMOS, AF, video, etc, are already available Ad nauseam and I can't say my photography has suffered much at 7D current specs. Hate tweakin' dials or joysticks just to change a friggen AF point. Just want to look and the camera knows what I want in focus.
I just wish they would hurry up and say whether or not such a camera is coming or not! I need to update my 40D. I've had a 7D in my shopping cart for 2 weeks at B&H!
1) APS-H 24MP new gen sensor, 14 stop DR, per pixel noise same as 5D III
2) 5D III class AF
3) 10fps, 30 RAW, unlimited jpg, and even when you write to both cards simultaneously
4) EOS 1V sealing
5) ISO 50-102400
6) GPS, flash + controller, wifi
7) CF + SD slots, UHS-I support
8) USB 3
9) AF point(s) light up in red when you focus
10) 3.2" 900x600 OLED rear screen (1.62MP)
11) Programmable Auto ISO with ability to set min/max shutter speeds and 1/(n*FL) (n=1,2,3,4) presets. Fixed in M mode.
12) Hybrid AF so we can get PDAF in LV mode.
13) Interchangeable VF screens
14) Eyepiece that includes VF shutter
15) HDR II, even better alignment, additional settings to control look
16) 2,3,5 or 7 bracketable shots
17) 1080p @ 60fps, 720p @ 120fps, much improved output compared to 5D III
$3499
Of course I know it won't be APS-H, so if we swap sensor for new 21MP APS-C, but new tech and similar specs, we will see price drop to $2999.

This will only be a reality with a FF sensor like the 5dmkIII.
We are way beyond the point where we can get big gains in ISO performance without a total change in sensor tech. Silicon based bayer sensors are already way over 50% efficient

Rob, I do not care how it's done, and whether it is easy or hard....... I am paying them to do "hows" and "whats" and "whens" and "whos" themselves, but at the end of it, I want the performance which I want......that is, if they would like me to buy their camera.
I'd like them to open the firmware. What incredibly cool stuff might we see if the community could easily modify the camera? Magic Lantern is the tip of the iceberg.
I think canon will give a 40d => 50d type upgrade if they hold the price in the teens. To receive some of the above upgrades the price will be 2.5-3k. You are not going to receive 1d IV performance for $1500...
Don't really plan on getting it, although the reach would be super nice, after 5D3 and 24-70 II and all that money, but if it were to be my only camera:
1. 5D3 AF, not crippled down at all
2. vastly improved low ISO DR
3. crisp 1080p without moire or aliasing
if it were to be in addition to 5D3:
1. "" ""
2. "" "" (but in this case even more because it would mean they both care and can pull it off and the 5D4 and so on will get it too)
3. buffer as good as the 5D3s as measured by time not # of shots (more shots to keep up with fater fps of 7D2) with top UDMA7 cards at the 7DII's higher frame rate
and a given that it better retain a full 18MP for reach at least, in either case and fix the silly auto-iso crippling for once, especially for this sort of camera! and built-in GPS pod

+1000
1DX AF system, 10-12fps, etc. - these are all fantasy specs .
Let's hope that the 7DII will at least get a proper sensor upgrade.
Canon's sensor tech is up for renewal.
If we are lucky, the 7DII will get a brand new 18-20mp sensor.
It's not inconceivable that this sensor, if made on the new tech, will perform as the 1DIV/5DII.

Guys (and gals) the specs of the 7D successor have already been set some time ago. It's nice day dreaming, but don't expect the new camera to be changed because of ideas in this thread. In general the final specifications of a new camera are being set about 7-8 months before production and marketing starts. Anyway, daydraiming can be EOSfun too. But too high expectations will lead to disappointment en disillusions.
