I am very happy with the Canon G 1X. Must tell you that it took me a while to get used to its slows focus, but have grown to really like it. Image quality is great; low light capabilities Great!. Bigger than the Sony, slower, and not as nice looking...but love the IQ.
Not good for fast moving objects unless you can plan for them. The first week or so I wanted to return it since the differenece between it and a dSLR around responsiveness is so wide. But as I said above, if you are patient you will find it a great camera in a reasonably small package.
Happy shooting!

I always opt for a waterproof camera I can lug in my pocket on the beach, then a nicer camera for the dinners and fancy dry moments. You can get so many more shots that way with the family.
If it wasn't a water filled vacation, OMD all the way (which I think is splash proof, but not swim in the beach waterproof)
Since you're asking for a vacation camera which should be small and compact, I'd go with the RX100. I'm using it now and it never leaves my shirt pocket
