I think it looks really nice considering the conditions. Sure a 100% crop would show the issues but for web display it is great. I think you could get a decent 8x10 print out of it maybe bigger. You are making me regret buying teh 1d4 and not just going for the 1dx.

Very cool capture.

no, that's just how the barn owl facial feathers look like.

Here the BG noise is quite strong and needs heavy NR so you need to be very careful with selection otherwise a halo will appear around the bird.

I use tracking sensitivity set to slowest and AF point switching delay set to slow. although the last one didn't matter here as I was using the 2X

hey Herb, just edit any of those cases, case is just Canon's grouping of those settings.

here is another ISO 10K example, not a great shot aesthetically but if this was a rare bird it is possible to document it. I tried printing the owl, not bad at 8X10!
