I think it looks really nice considering the conditions. Sure a 100% crop would show the issues but for web display it is great. I think you could get a decent 8x10 print out of it maybe bigger. You are making me regret buying teh 1d4 and not just going for the 1dx.

Great shot. Is the little bit of blur on the face feathers (and a little towards the feet) due to applying blur/NR to the background and then masking out the bird? I find that a little distracting but it's still a cool capture - it's not that often you get a background that dark when capturing birds in flight, and it really makes the owl pop.

Very cool capture.

no, that's just how the barn owl facial feathers look like.

Here the BG noise is quite strong and needs heavy NR so you need to be very careful with selection otherwise a halo will appear around the bird.

thanks

Nice shot Arash. What case # and sliider settings for your preferred Af system ?

Hi Herb

I use tracking sensitivity set to slowest and AF point switching delay set to slow. although the last one didn't matter here as I was using the 2X

You must have done some NR here. A fine shot. I've just done some similar stuff with ISO at 25,000. Lots of noise. The AF worked well but fell down with tracking fast moving birds. Certainly far better than I ever could have done before the 1DX. Progress is amazing! Don

of course you have to apply advanced noise reduction to deal with these ISOs

Thanks a lot Arash. I've been using those same settings in Case # 1,2 and 6 with varied degrees of success. Thanks again.

here is another ISO 10K example, not a great shot aesthetically but if this was a rare bird it is possible to document it. I tried printing the owl, not bad at 8X10!

Amazing set up, Arash. The detail are impressive considering the techs of the image. Maybe some day.

Excellent work.
