we here are referring to still frame rate transfers. it's only part of the equation. soon enough we'll have 4K video being pushed off. progress, ain't it grand.

Yes, that too will increase the need for higher transfer rates.
Either CFast or XQD is fine with me, but I'm not doing both and also CF and SD for other bodies. Ideally there would be a mini/micro XQD or CFast for small devices, be SDxx is too firmly entrenched.

yes, if there were only one to rule them all.

really 2 XQDs on the D4 would not have bothered me at all.

you'd need CFast II due to the limits of CFast.

we shall see. but CFast 2.0 is new out of the gate (and of course faster but and XQD 2 is coming). this is and it always will be the next wave in a technology marketing war. it will just keep coming to keep us consuming. the biggest advantage is to the moving image industry.

It looks like Canon is supporting the CFast and Sony/Nikon the XQD. So now I will pay double, not to mention the SDxC for the reach cameras.

Expensive. I'm sure prices will drop over time, but it won't be easy to get a foothold in an already packed market segment at $300 for 32Gb. And it's not like the current tech is seriously lacking in performance for most users.

both of you will pay double only because you choose to. but then you knew it was coming right? no real point complaining about it. its progress.
