Is it spot on now with your +15 dialled in? If so I'd personally keep it. That's what MA is for after all. Remember, on another body your lens may be perfect. It's a combination of the lens and body together after all.

If you're getting super sharp shots now then it's all good right. Of course it's entirely up to you so if you're not happy then by all means exchange it.

Well the main thing is, it's at 15+ now but I have a feeling it might even need 16+ or more. So what if this gets worse over time, and I need +21 at one time?

It shouldn't get worse once its dialled in but clearly it's going to bother you so go and exchange it. It's a lot of money and you deserve to be completely satisfied.

By the way, tested the lens on my 7D and results are about the same, definitely needs a heavy dose of MA there too. What's bothering me even more is that AF seems very inconsistent. Sometimes (after MA) it's fine, sometimes AF is all over the place

My AF is spot on. Quick and accurate. Perhaps it's Canon letting you down. ;-)

Don't think so. I have a whole lot of (L-) lenses, each spot on with AF. I really want to love this Sigma, but the AF is really *not* good in my case. Going to try to swap it at the store for a different copy, or ask my money back. A shame, because when it hits AF, it's very very very sharp.

Swap it at the store. Test the replacement before you leave the shop.

Posted in the alternative thread. Sigma 35 1.4 paired with the D600, a killer low light indoor combo I mainly shoot landscape & architecture and this was my first event with 'real' subjects

Disclaimer:

This lens is a keeper. However, I needed to send my 800e with the 35/1.4 to Sigma Service in NY to get the AF on target. It was way off before...spot on now. Turn around was within days. I know its a leap of faith to send in your camera plus lens.

Did it mess up the micro adjust and/or focus with your other (I pressume) nikon lenses?

Thanks

Actually not sure. That was my only AF Nikon mount lens at the time (slowly transitioning from Canon). Since then I rented a 200/2 VRII which required +20 MA, but then I bought a 200/2 VR (I) recently that required only 3+.
I'm renting a 200-400 this weekend, so we'll see.

Sigma service person told me when I first inquired, that their work would not affect my other lenses. They advised having my camera in hand in order to precisely tweak my lens to my camera instead of adjusting it to their camera. (Which makes sense to me). They nailed it.

I am also assuming that the USB dock will calibrate a lens only to the camera for which it is intended , possibly requiring recalibration for another camera. This is well beyond my knowledge about how lenses are actually adjusted...so I'll shut up at this point.

Sigma has my d800e and 35 1.4 right now..

my center point was slightly back focusing needing like -15 Fine tune adjustment however the side point fpcuses were beyond salvage and nothing could bring the focus back on them.

on my D700 the 35 did the same thing just not as worse.

they called me and told me they got the center point worked out but can not get the outer focus points perfect so they are waiting on more software from japan to see if that resolves it.

im crossing my fingers... only had my 800e for a few days and off it went with the siggy for adjustment.

They'll do a good job. They have a hot product, trying to steal market share with their art lenses. They will do whatever it takes to keep customers happy at this point IMHO.

My 800e and 35/1.4 are so well matched after they tuned it, neither one going anywhere without the other.

I guess I'm a little late to the party. D800e + Sigma arrived last weekend. First FX camera and first pro-level lens. Amazing. When I look at these files, I feel like my head is going to explode. A couple from around the house..

Quick hand held shot, from about 3ft feet away.
