Used this lens almost exclusively on my recent trip to mexico. I had debated bringing only this lens, but my fear of the unknown left me dragging around 20 pounds of gear, only to use this lens for 95% of my shots. The other 5% meant nothing to the trip.

dang it, this lens is b/o'd still till mid Feb. I was going to maybe order it to see how it performs as a landscape lens ..

Sharpest, no doubt. Bokeh......a bit busy for my tastes. The Zeiss has far more uncorrected color issues; why, only Zeiss knows. Maybe they're saving the best for the $5k, 1,2/35 prime to follow the the 55/1.4. But the "atmospherics" of the Zeiss 1,4/35 has an indescribably ethereal quality these other sharper lenses (Nikkor, Sigma, etc.) just don't have. The velvety smooth background aside, skin tones are rendered with a generous sumptuousness instead of the brutal honesty of the these AF alternatives.

Matter of taste, really.

I really like the way this sigma lens looks. I think it has a vibe and a personality. Zeiss is just fine. The sigma is just fine too. My concern with the sigma is I keep reading people complaining about its af issues? Is this truly a problem?

<edit> above poster. My copy will not autofocus properly with the outer focus points on the d800. With af fine tune though, the center point works very well. As good as my nikon lenses. Apparently, sigma is going to release a fix for the d800/d4 soon.... who knows.

I used to race but quit. I must say an 808 clincher... must be pretty Heavy even for CF. I imagine thats not on your road bike? On TT bike that would be a pretty sweet combo.

I used to have a Cervelo R3-SL with ZIPP 404's Tubular of course.

Cool wheels. Its amazing how far tech has come. Even cooler pic. Then lens is SSAAWWEETT

Also loving this lens, been ill lately so not gotten out to really test it. I also am eager to see how it performs for landscape and maybe a bit of street too.
