Both of them are just fantastic and well worth the effort (and freezing your butt off...)!
The first has great visual interest...lots for the eyes to explore. The pastel colours really match the mood of the composition. The second is nice and simple, an interesting subject supported by simple, colourful background.

Very beautiful Scott!
Cold Canada...
The second must have been a piece of ice that fell off your frozen screaming face!
That could very well be!

I remember walking around the ice art festival in Fairbanks, AK. Hours in the sub-zero temperatures simply destroyed batteries and hands. The cold often steals a person's will to stay. Congratulations on the two excellent captures -- well done!
That photo I had to put the camera on the ice and use my grad filter to control the tilt. I could not get low enough with the tripod. The cold was chewing through batteries in a few shots.
For those interested, here is a photo taken by a photographer friend I often get out shooting with while I was scouting for an interesting subject to shoot. (photo #2).
First is spectacular, Scott. Love the way the colors fill the ice in the second. The ice resembles a bird with its beak wide open. It even seems to have eyes.

Scott,
Two incredibly beautiful images.
Plus, the second is unique and infinitely publishable.
Trust me- your suffering was worth it for me .
Charlie
Thank you Charlie. If I had a clue where to start with getting my work published I'd be all over it.
