Any recommendations for aftermarket Canon LP-E6 Li-Ion Batteries for Canon 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III, 6D, 7D, and 60D?

Are the "Non-Decoded" bateries that require an aftermarket charger OK? Like these for $6.20 each

I know they wont't show the amount of charge left on the camera's LCD, but I need a lot of batteries and I can't afford $57.95 each!

I purchased one from ebay yesterday for ~$25 that is new OEM according to the listing...not sure what I'm going to receive but the feedback reports OEM being shipped to the end customer.

Really , don't touch the non coded ones . I defiantly wouldn't put them in my camera. In a grip would only be as a last resort (at least if the go bad it's likely to be the grip that gets wrecked)

I bought a cheap coded one from amazon. Supposedly had a 2yr warranty. Well after less that 6 months and only a few uses the thing does not hold charge. Guess what the seller won't refund/replace it saying I need to talk to amazon. Amazon don't want to know an just poi t me to the seller. I can't be bothered with the hassle for the £15 it cost me. A friend bought 6 (not the same as mine) . All coded with the same serial number (cloned chip?) . He shoots lots of video with his 60D . He was very happy with his batteries at first . But has since said they have all now failed .

I don't normally say this , but in the case of this battery it's canon only for me .
My friends remedy was to get a decent 3rd party grip that had an 'AA' magazine . He has a stack of rechargeable eneloop type (7day shop branded) that he bought in bulk .

screwing up an expensive camera to save a few bucks on a battery doesn't make sense, IMHO.

Why bother messing with it?

Watch out for deformed / defective EOM batteries offered on Ebay. I bought some and ran into issue of not being able to eject the battery out. I have to use a pin to pry it out every time. Good luck.

Be careful . There are loads of fake ones knocking around on eBay. Quite a while back there was a thread on here about them . Can't remember the full details but the general gist of it was :- the OP said they were good (I wouldn't trust fake) . But I'm sure some one else said they were likely out of the same factory as the real thing but just in fake packets. But then that got blown out of the water when the 3 that a guy bought had the same serial number

The 6d has some new communication with the batteries than current non canons dont work with.

The batteries work but the camera complains.

For what it's worth, I'm using a Wasabi Power battery ($16.95 via Amazon) and it works flawlessly with my 5D3, including reporting charges...I can't tell the difference in performance between the Canon battery and it.

I have some aftermarket batteries that I bought from my local camera store for around $30 each (they were out of the canon brand). Have been using them for years and they seem the same as the canon to me. I wouldn't worry too much if you get a brand with a chip

Paying way to much just to have the OEM name on it doesn't make sense, IMHO.

Why bother paying double?

Now, to qualify my TIC statement, I wouldn't buy an aftermarket battery that didn't have great reviews.

A bit of research can save big bucks - and are plenty safe...

In Thailand a reputable brand is OSKA. I no longer use them, but used to with my 5DC. Now I own a 5D MK3 I'll only use legit Canon batteries.

I have been using Photive batteries for my T3i and they were great. However, I am awaiting a used 5Dii and looked at the Photive batteries again and didn't see the same solid reviews as the ones for my T3i.

the Wasabi batteries mentioned above have great reviews and are available in a two pack with charger for $35 shipped. may have to try those out.

I never paid attention to the battery meter on my T3i but the camera always functioned perfectly. I assume the more expensive cameras like the 5D have additional sensing technology?
