Fred- Kudos!
From my point of view, Zabriskie Point is a picture-making paradox.
On the one hand, it's hard to take a bad picture. But it's even harder to make a really good picture.
You've managed to make an exceptionally good picture.
The sky was good that afternoon- as was the light.
You incorporated them into a terrific composition and exposure, and topped it all off with some very fine processing.
This is one of the best images from Zabriskie Point that I've seen. I dearly wish I'd taken a photograph that good from there.

A great shot indeed! I also see a wonderful/stunning image hiding in the same frame (i.e. ridges lit up with sunlight in the lower half of the image). A tighter crop might not be a bad experiment.

The sky was overcast that afternoon but I gave it a shot. I only took a couple frames as the light made its way and was ready for it.

I'm often surprised that more people don't try to shoot here at times other than the familiar first-light hour. The beautiful side light on the foreground formations reinforces that thought.

True Dan. I've been there at sunrise as well, but the shadows and textures created by the last afternoon light are different, making this time of day worth a visit.
