Great image, Fred. Really like the composition and drama with the clouds and shadows.

This is really great. Actually, this is one of the best shots I've seen from this location. Lots of drama and the light is just perfect.

Fred- Kudos!
From my point of view, Zabriskie Point is a picture-making paradox.
On the one hand, it's hard to take a bad picture. But it's even harder to make a really good picture.
You've managed to make an exceptionally good picture.
The sky was good that afternoon- as was the light.
You incorporated them into a terrific composition and exposure, and topped it all off with some very fine processing.
This is one of the best images from Zabriskie Point that I've seen. I dearly wish I'd taken a photograph that good from there.

A great shot indeed! I also see a wonderful/stunning image hiding in the same frame (i.e. ridges lit up with sunlight in the lower half of the image). A tighter crop might not be a bad experiment.

Hey Fred,

Wow! What a great parting shot. I love the dappled light on those ridges. Combining the dappled light with the stripes of color really makes for a shot that feels 3D. A great feeling of depth here. Great job here.

Jim

Thanks Jim!
The sky was overcast that afternoon but I gave it a shot. I only took a couple frames as the light made its way and was ready for it.

I love the composition.
The light angle, clouds, and the rock ridges... they go together so well.
It is very sweet and pleasing.
Another wonderful shot!

Hi Kee,
I was not expecting this light. Thanks for your comment.
It was a lucky shot. For a quick moment, the light passed through and it was all I was hoping for.

All the best,
Fred

I'm often surprised that more people don't try to shoot here at times other than the familiar first-light hour. The beautiful side light on the foreground formations reinforces that thought.

Hi Fred,

Excellent work of a fleeting opportunity. A bit of luck for you as well. As our friend Don Hall has so astutely observed, "Chance favors the prepared".

I love it!

++1 What others have said! Beautiful.

When using the 90 here did you have to apply much tilt?

True Dan. I've been there at sunrise as well, but the shadows and textures created by the last afternoon light are different, making this time of day worth a visit.
