Jeffrey - four beautifully crafted images from Yosemite.

Bruce, I'm curious, how wide a lens did you use for your shot from Patagonia? Striking terrain, to say the least.

I used the 1dsmk III with my 24-70 at 64 mm F8.

My buddies house in VT. Nothing like getting wasted in a hot tub outside while snowing.

Thanks. I've come back to that shot a few times. Really nice.

Will, that is one heck of a house your friend has! You did a fine job of making it look inviting.

And here's a few from Stockholm proper. I haven't yet sorted out everything, and some photos on a separate theme are (hopefully) pending publication so I'll withhold that particular set for later. However, I can share some general pictures from Stockholm city.

Trashed fir trees - and that's actually before the New Year (Dec. 30 morning). Looks like the Swedes are more into Christmas than the New Year, unlike us over here.

Sorry, I can't help it. This was yesterday. So bizarre.

Jim's photos show that winter in Southern Cal is not the white wonderland we associate with the season. Here in the Piedmont of NC, most of the deciduous trees are bare, but there are still bushes that are just as green as the conifers. Late yesterday a neighborhood cat was hunting and hid under a very dense bush. This is, of course, a gear thread (), so I post these shots to demonstrate the ability of the 1DX to lock onto eyes that were the only part of the animal that I could even see in the darkness. Also, the ISO was very high, and I did substantial shadow and exposure pushing in Lightroom. Are they as clean as low ISO shots? No, but they look good and will print well.

Okay, look, wasn't it time for some cat photos anyway? It's illegal, but who's gonna lock me up?

No, I'm not going to sit still, you'll have to catch me!

Wide open now? You'll have to nail focus on my eyes and ignore my fur.

Okay, I know you want one shot at a slower shutter speed so you can drop to a four digit ISO. You'll still have to bump the exposure in LR.

Bruce, I have another question for you. In the last shot - which I like a lot - what is hanging on the racks? Am I seeing a survey expedition of some sort?

Those are Crampons used for walking on the Glacier.

Here is one to give you an idea of the size of the glacier.

This afternoon we almost reached room temperature outside. Not much seems like winter except for the (mostly) bare trees. So, out walking the dog, I got my G10 out of my pocket and grabbed this shot. There's nothing special about it, but it reminded me that pocket cameras are capable of amazingly clean results when the conditions allow base ISO (and when AF and quick response are not an issue, etc., etc.). I was even able to pull the shadows up without nastiness appearing in the file.

Black and white (with my simulation of a deep red filter) makes this same snap shot look a little more like winter.
Come on folks, I'm scraping the barrel to keep the thread alive while waiting for more of you folks experiencing "real" winter to post your shots!
Seriously, there has been a nice variety already, and I appreciate everyone's contributions.

Wow Peter, you're starting to get stuff with your 1DX and Mk II teles that rivals what you used to create with the magical 1DIIn and "ancient" teles!
