Ralph , must not forget the light angle & subject distance, they don't always look the same and bokeh is nothing to do with this thread. I throw them out so anyone can see 5d2 ( or any older FF) is able to cover most their needs. Older IQ is no less than the latest release 5d3/6d model while using the slowest to fastest lenses. Some wants the best available without hurting their wallet and this is the main point of this thread.

Beside some honeymooner post, more neutral discussion of old/new ff canon market value vs features vs IQ to help new user to have more REALISTIC data to get whatever he/she really needs.

Yes of course, mttran. My comment was just a spontan answer to sailingpilots comment to your specific picture. Thank you for the link. I am already following the thread. I am always hungry for more data. :-)

CR admitts that in 2012 Canon was still the leader in DSLR sales:

http://www.canonrumors.com/2012/12/canon-sells-more-dslrs-than-anyone/

Cutting of the low end segments, Canon was even more successfull.
Different from CR I imagine that 5D II added a huge part to this success. As far I could follow (e. g. Amazon) the 5D II was still sold very successfull during the whole year.

Maybe I got lucky and got 2 good cameras but I dont have any issues with my AF on my 5d2, I see so many people complaining about that issue but it is not an issue here. I was shooting last saturday and I got 100% keepers with the 135L and Sigma 35, never noticed the camera hunting or anything crazy or maybe I am not as demanding as must shooters.

I cant see myself upgrading anytime soon, I think I will upgrade on the next gen, dont see the need to do it now.

The issues were mainly with i) servo mode ii) off centre AF points especially in lower light. The AF with the central point was mostly very good.

And that's what I use, central point, so it is all good to me, 5D2 for a long time.

Do these archives bump? Time to find out. Apparently so. Was digging through older photos tonight and appreciated what the 5D mk ii can accomplish.

90% of photographers who drag a Sony A7R iv or Canon 5D mk iv in the redwoods rarely capture much more than the 5D mk ii can provide there. Not that their bodies can't. It's just that they don't time it right, use a tripod or print big enough to make it matter.

Hard to resist buying a 5D mk to tuck away in the archives.

I still use my 5D2 from time to time, and still produces some great files! I will hold on to this body, until the shutter gives out (and then buy another 5D2.. they can be had for cheap now days!).

They had them on the refurbished site maybe 2.5 years ago or so. Might be worth looking there if you wanted a basically new one.

Nostalgia from 8 years ago when Canon abandoned the 2nd in the 5D line. Now that it looks like Canon is abandoning the entire 5D series, I'm glad to see the 5D2 is still going strong. I think my original 5D is still active in the hands of a friend. I've had each of the numbered 5Ds and have cherished images from all of them. The FF 5D and image stabilized L zooms were a revolution in my image quality. I recently traded my 5D3 for a 6D2 to act as backup to my 5D4. Those two should last a good long time! No Rs for me, I'm a solid D all the way. I prefer a real viewfinder and my original 24-105 L is still churning out exquisite images.

Thanks Canon and good luck in your future endeavors.

The leap from a 60D to the 5D mk ii seemed to change the look of photos more than from the 5D mk ii to 5D mk iv. I could go backwards to a 5D mk ii and make due. But I don't think I'd ever enjoy a Canon 60D again.

Got my 5D2 when it was first released, the first FF I ever had. Used it for 8 years, 150000 frames or so, before I upgraded to the 5D4.

Really love the camera. Compared to my 5D4, the 5D2 never gave me any problems. My 5D4 buttons did not respond twice under cold weather, say -30C. The 5D4 also had a white balance problem and the only way to snap out of that mode was to do a factory reset.

My 5D2 is in use regularly when I need to take a time lapse of the star trails with magic lantern, or whenever I needed a web cam for online meetings.

Even though I have a 5DIV, I used the 5DII from time to time. I was just out a couple days ago with it.

A 12-year run is pretty amazing. I was an early adopter but after 4 years I switched to m43 for the weight savings. I am now back with Canon. The R5 encompasses the best features of the A7R IV and A9 - high resolution with amazing AF and speed. And the 100-500L weighs only 3 lbs. No other brand can offer you these exceptional qualities.
