Oh, man! Thanks for the kind words guys. I don't know about all that though. Too much talent around these parts.
I have but one clear objective in shooting/posting to this thread...
That is, to eventually post an image that leads Ralph to finally open his wallet and buy this fine tool.
And of course, thanks! I probably wouldn't recommend doing it this way though as I have read there is always the potential for damage to the sensor for such a long exposure. Not to mention that long exposures create long exposure noise, and for such a long exposure like this one, there was a ton, with lots of hot spots and bright pixels. The usual way for star trails is to take multiple shorter exposures then blend them later. And if I was going to attempt this again that is probably what I would do. Shoot a single exposure with settings to expose the ground properly, then do the multiples for the star trails and blend it all together later....Show more →
Ive never heard of long exposures possibly damaging the sensor. Ive taken lots of long exposures, some into hours long with my 20D and 7D and never had a problem other noise.
I got my 6D and 24-105L kit just in time for this weekend. This is a picture from Bodega Bay, from the Bodega Head area. This is part of Sonoma Coast State Beach.
