Which bag is this? The one that's supplied with the lens? I thought about using it to carry the lens with camera mounted but can't see how the lid would shut!

It is the standard bag CL-L1 which comes with the lens.

It shuts fine but a tad tight and you should keep the camera and lens in the bag for few days to relax the fabric.

You have to release and lengthen the back straps as well as the ones for the cover with the clasp.
You can also remove the velcro padding for more room if you have to.

I put the whole bag on a collapsible rolling trolley to tote around with another lens on the side and a monopod.

I will try to post a pic later if you are interested.

Oh I see. I didn't realise the interior of the bag was so customisable. Just been playing around with it now. Awesome. Did you know that bottom padded segment lifts out as well? There's still at least an inch or more of padding left on the bottom and this way the lid closes much easier. Am well chuffed now I realised I can leave the camera mounted. Much easier this way as mounting and un-mounting the camera is tricky at the best of times, let alone outside if you haven't got anywhere to set the lens down.

Couldn't handle the lusting anymore so I said the hell with it and placed an order yesterday

I almost felt dizzy spending that much.. you know that feeling after an intense set of deadlifts? lol
It should be here next week

Ha ha. That's the NAS spirit. I know that feeling well my friend. But what I can tell you is that once you've finally managed to unpack the lens from its Fort Knox packaging and you hold your chubby in your hand for the first time you will feel good!

The rubber lip around the end of the lens will have nasty imprints from the Velcro sticky pads at the bottom of the case but don't worry, they disappear after a few days.

Enjoy your awesome new lens and huge congrats buddy. One last thing to say, pics or it didn't happen.

I have had mine for three years now, and it is my favorite lens. I can still remember the day I went to FDX to pick it up, took my grandaughter to the pumpkin farm and put it to work with her as my little model.

I see you went with vr1. Is there a big cost difference between 1 and 2 over there? I'm not even sure we can get 1 over here anymore.

I saw this in a previous thread. The HK-30 is around £350!! How did you cut the hood down to size. I'd be interested to have a go at this but I'm shite at DIY stuff so would need to get assistance.

I ordered a HK-30 from BHPhoto, I think it was $279?

The rubber ring on the front of the lens hood can be carefully taken off, it's just attached via some glue at various points. A small flathead screwdriver and a bunch of time is all it takes.

Then I measured my new hood length and carefully marked it with painters tape and a pencil. Then I used a plastic cutting wheel on a dremel to do the actual cut. After that, just check to make sure you made an even cut, put the rubber ring back on and put a few spots of superglue under the rubber to keep it on.

Looks like it came from the factory.

Crikey. $279. Would cheaper for me to commission you to do the job for me!

Wow, that looks outstanding. It's too bad it costs nearly $300 to do it.

I guess it's only about 5% of the overall cost of the lens, though.
