For $1000 I'd buy:

Nikon 180 2.8D (used) $400
Nikon 85 1.8D $500

<edit> looks like you already purchased the 70-200. I had thought this one was well over $1000 but maybe not.

You know by the time you add up the new lens, a new body, a flash ... it might be the cheapest option.

Of course, then you will get the naysayers of "Never shoot at noon in the sun!"

There's no "perfect" answer.

The lens you bought sounds like the best compromise of the various issues you are balancing.

hmm it's starting to sound like what you really need is a fast prime.. something like an 85 1.4 or the 1.8G. Sometimes even 2.8 is just not fast enough.

Unfortunately I went over budget. I was able to find one for $1300. It should be here on the 12th.
