Prob the best engagement session i've ever seen....it's my DREAM to spend that kind of day with a couple, and have them be totally cool with it...amazing!
>>> Thanks Nathan - so good to do a 12 hour shoot. It was a no brainer for me. I'm in Chicago, I'm being taken on a tour with an awesome couple who looked after me so well. I stayed at their place down town for 2 nights. I got to know them well and this session and hopefully their wedding will benefit from spending that amount of time with them.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but these shots are a dead ringer for Tony Hoffer's work.
>>> Thanks Jamie, that is a huge compliment

How do you envision the shots ? Are they pre conceived or just "off the cuff" ? Amazing.....
>>> Hey Misty. They were all off the cuff. Saying that I knew I'd like to get a sunset shot, something at the aquarium. The night before we planned a route but there was no shot list. Having 12 hours session allowed me to relax and enjoy the day. Most of the time we cruised around and I asked them to pull over if I saw a cool spot. Likewise on shot #31, that was Kenny's old place of work down the street so he wanted a shot with that in. My e-sessions are normally 2 hours and I run around like a headless chicken!

These look beautiful Jon, mind if I ask whether you were shooting dx or fx, and which body?
(Longform, specific critique, assuming you still wanted one
3, I'm not crazy about the angle, too much negative space imo, but I'm sure the couple liked it. Same with 4, at least for the left hand side of the image, I feel like 6 could have been cropped a bit tigher, but of course I'm sure they loved it.
(the images I don't mention, I couldn't think of something to improve right away.:P)
7, I feel could have also been cropped a bit more tightly. 10 is pretty awesome, 14 was a good idea, 17 seems like you could have done a better job to me, too much negative space with the painted curb imo, 20, I'm not quite sold on the slightly askew framing, maybe it's an acquired taste for them, the aquarium shot is great, 23 underwhelms me compared to your other work, 24 is some really creative framing +3, 25 is pretty awesome, probably one of your best in the set.
26 looks nice... but it's too composited looking out of the set (14 doesn't count, cause it's pretty damn awesome).
28 in the bar looks great, and is your best of that part, imo.
30 is well done, but a bit too cliche for my tastes.
31 and 32, I feel you could have done much better compared to the rest of the images in this gallery ;P.
>>> Thanks Cartier - appreciate the critique. Agree with most of the comments. Some have a little too much negative space, but it must have been the tunes I was listening to during editing Do you find that? You edit differently depending what you're listening too?
