p.2 #1 · D800 cleaning / how clean does your D800/e run?
Mine had some spots so big you could see them on the LCD. I read somewhere a lot of video use exacerbates the oil issue - something to do with the extra heat. When mine got bad I had done a lot of messing about with video and one fashion shoot.

I've had enough dust twice to run the full clean cycle. That took care of it both times. Otherwise, 5 months and no sensor swab or Eclipse needed yet... I change lenses as needed with no special precautions and shoot lots of landscapes at small apertures.
I do have a speck of dust in the viewfinder, but nothing worth the bother to remove.

different strokes for....D300 almost 5 y/o, cleaned once wet. D700 seems to need cleaning once a quarter but I have twice as many clicks on the 300.ymmv.
