p.1 #1 · Catch of the First Light at Zabriskie in Death Valley

My first visit to the Death Valley was very interesting.
Toured a few more places nearby.
Here is my first posting from my adventure.
Will appreciate your comments heartily.
Thanks. Kee

***
Upon all the suggestions, I have re-posted photos with 4 different ratios.
Let's see which one looks best!!! :-)

*****
The last one is the square crop with the bottom starts with "V" convergence.

Beautiful light. May have a bit more sky then it needs. By the way, a smaller version of this would be easier to view. Maybe half the current size.

Cheers,
Ed

Nice sharpness in the fore and background. A bit too much sky, could lose a good bit of it to emphasize the lovely ridges.

Nice light & DOF.
Agree on the crop, maybe 6x7 or 4x5 format

Thanks Jeffrey.
I will crop some portion of the sky off and see if it improves.

Good, Kee. I hope you are not actually limiting your crops to predefined sizes, but rather simply moving the top down to the place it looks best, and not worrying what the actual dimension or aspect ratio is.

Yes, I realize it.
But the photo cropped by this ratio seems to be quite pleasing and easy on the eyes.
Thanks and cheers!

Beautiful light, colours and textures. I didn't see the original version but I might be tempted to crop even further to more like a 5:4 ratio - it really draws you into the folds of the hills... Just my opinion though - the clouds are nicely formed and it certainly looks lovely as is anyway! ;-) Lizzie

Hi - Beautiful light and the transition from the brightly lit foreground to the hazy mountains in back is divine!

Nice image of one my favorite places in DV. I would probably crop a bit off the top to emphasize the mountains and ridges more.

Hey Kee,

A very cool shot. The square crop is my favorite. I think the sliver of sky in the other shots are a distraction.

Wonderful light, colors, and contrast.

Last one looks best balanced, IMO. Agree with the others that there was way too much sky in the original.

Even then, I think another inch on the bottom would have been nice - the 'V' convergence and dark rock could use a bit more 'breathing' space.

Full credit for not shooting Manley Beacon, like 99% of the 'Dawn at Zabrisikie' shooters do.

Thanks John, Jim, and Greg,

Your advice and suggestions are well taken. I posted the square cropped with the "V" convergence at the bottom.

As for the comment on Manley Beacon.. it would be a challenge to hike to the top of it, but I wonder how the view would be like from the top of Manley Beacon!

Happy Thanksgiving!
