Well here's hoping that the 6D might come down in price before April like the D600 has. I think I'm going to wait and see. If I miss out on the opportunity for a new 5D2, I'll be ok with a used one that doesn't have too much traffic on it. My current camera is a refurb so I'm always open to that too.

My favorite landscapes are taken at fairly long focal length (90-200), stitching frames together.
When I moved up from my 10D to my 5D2, I replaced my 17-40 with a 24-105; the 24-105 still lives on my 5D3. People whine about the distortion with that lens, but (i) it's easy to fix in PP, and (ii) it's less than the distortion at 17 on the 17-40. 24mm is quite wide on a full frame sensor.
The flexibility the 24-105 range gives you for all sorts of uses is unsurpassed, IMO.

I'm actually going to Fairbanks for my sister's wedding. She works for a tour company there and they do bus trips to the arctic circle and flights to some remote Eskimo villages. Last time my mother went to Alaska she got to hop on whatever empty seat they had available and I'm hoping I can do the same.
Other than this trip, I'm mainly a hobbyist that does some photo work for the company I work for such as events and employee photos.
In that case I think the 24-105 L + any of the above mentioned FF bodies. The glass is really your critical link.

That is an insanely good price for a 5D2 w a 90 day warranty. Even w/out clp, the body is $1319! I'm thinking of buying one to back up my other 5D2's & 7D's. A lot of people are excited about the 6D... I'm not one of them. It is lower res than the 5D2, lacks the Mg reinforcement in the body, moves the joystick into the wonder wheel, & lacks the functional refinements of the 7D. The marginal gain in dynamic range and lowlight AF & wifi/gps capabilities does not make the camera better than the 5D2, just different.
Look @ the 5D2 + refurb 17-40L for about $650, & you're set!

Are you going to Alaska in April? Weather in northern Alaska can be
horrible and hard on cameras, especially non-1D series. It's snowed
on July 4 in Barrow.

Well if I can get the CLP deal w/ my old sureshot, I'd say this is a no-brainer. I like the looks of the 6D, but it's not nearly worth $1000 more.
Get 5D2 and all lenses you need. Forget about 6D or 5D3
