p.2 #1 · Lord Howe Island and one of the word's rarest birds
Lance, these are some wonderful images of this rare bird! I just love hearing about successful efforts to save species in peril - and learning about isolated ecosystems. Thanks for sharing!

This is why I was so excited to go to Lord Howe and have been so eager to share these photos with everyone. A chance to see one of the worlds rarest birds and the success story that goes with it's breeding as well as the fact that the island is one of those rare places where it is it's own protected ecosystem. They have an amazing recycling program as well.

Wow this place sounds like a dream location as most islands sound to me. Great shot on #1 and you really seem to know a lot of what goes on and the balances and checks it takes to keep things in order. It is good you had the opportunity to be here.

Thank you for your kind words and extended comments, Karl.
Going to Lord Howe is one of those experiences not to miss, like going to the Galapagos Islands or Africa to see the animals there. Highly recommended if you like bird photography, bush walks with sensational views and a more secluded and unusual holiday.

There is something quite amazing about seeing and photographing something so rare than almost no one else on the planet will ever see it. And to get such a good look must have been a real thrill. Add to that some pretty great images and you have hit the jackpot!

What you have stated above is exactly how I felt, very priveleged and over the moon that I was lucky enough to have this opportunity to interact with nature in such a way. It's wonderful to walk around with these rare birds and for them to be completely unfazed by you being there.
