The first is a beauty Ron.

Luck is the confluence of timing and skill.

Nice work Ron, I'll go with 2. Sometimes you can make your own luck but sometimes it is just luck Maybe try shooting at f8 or so more often, you may like the results

I like the pose on #1 and I don't mind the DOF at all, that was a masterful grab shot buddy, looks close to the brances and f/4.5 might not have made much difference anyhow? Cool and in tight!

#2 aren't you supposed to light the bottoms of these?

Your plan worked and you got lucky

Wow, great work, Ron. You may have had luck finding him, but it took great skill to create these images.

Good compensation for having to do chores, Ron.
Both are excellent, although the first is my preference.

Thanx Eric. I really like the pose in 2. I do wish it had been a little farther away though.

Thanx for looking, and the pick Mike.

Sweet, Ron...well worth the trip back for the gear!

Thanx Will. I should keep my gear in the truck, but there's something about leaving gear in a truck that is worth less than the gear...

Whoo! Keeping your eyes open is better than luck and you were clearly doing that! But I would certainly have considered myself lucky, especially for the first one.

Thanx Mark. the downside is that every time I pass that field now, I'll be looking hard for that hawk.

Great shots Ron! Yep, a little luck does not hurt at all, and I don't mind having a lot of it. The last frame is just a magnificent shot, the small aperture helped (i think) in getting the entire bird in perfect focus. That is really a sweet image.

#1 is my pick. The DOF shows a bit of environment and adds to the image.
