p.1 #1 · Cursor Disappears in CS5

You guys have been so brilliant at answering all my questions lately, so I thought I'd ask about this one, it's really got me stumped.

After I upgraded to Mountain Lion my mouse cursor started disappearing in CS5. To get my mouse back I have to click out of CS5, on the desktop for example. I've noticed that it mostly disappears when I move the mouse over toward the brush module or to the layers module. In other words far left or right. After putting up with it for a few months I formatted my hard drive and did a clean install of Lion and reinstalled CS5, but it's still happening. It never disappears in any other situation. I should mention that I always keep LR running right underneath CS5 so I can go back and forth quickly when I need to. But that was never a problem in Lion, this seems to be a Mountain Lion thing.

Thanks for any suggestions!!!

It's a long-standing stupid CS5 bug.

Like many other stupid CS5 visual bugs on both platforms, it's usually fixed by opening the preferences to the "Performance" section and disabling OpenGL.

Do you know if CS6 inherited this bug as well, maybe that's a good excuse to upgrade

You don't have shift/shift-lock on do you?

... just in case......

When in photo shop, if you hit shift lock on the keyboard, it changes cursor mode. The tool me a while and a little pain to figure it out.

I finally figured this out, you mean Caps Lock, right? I've never heard of shift lock

no, the cursor utterly disappears, i have to click on the desktop to get it back, it's happening less since i did a clean install.

i turned off open GL, which seems to have worked, but the images looked a smidgen pixelated, is that possible or am i totally being paranoid?

Since I upgraded to CS6, a lot of the time I can no longer double-click on a file to open it. I have to go to File > Open, and locate the file to open it.

Just as an update, turning off openGL definitely worked. But it wasn't worth it. The images looked pixelated, very annoying. Unless anyone has a fix for that as well, ha!
