OK. So I am a wedding shooter and have been rocking D lenses for some time now. My accountant go a hold of me and said I needed to buy some stuff so I wont get killed as bad this year in taxes. So, I decided to sell all of my lenses and get some new G glass.
I have to say, what I thought was sharp before, well I was wrong. the new G lenses are killer sharp. 28, 50, 85 All crazy sharp. I am excited to rock this wedding this weekend and then start filming our movie on monday.

Congrats. Those are three great lenses. I have the wide and long set and figure I'll eventually end up with a 50 as well. All they need to do is bring out a 35/2 or /1.8 FX lens...

Funny to say that lately I am doing the opposite:
selling almost all G lenses and buying mint or near mint AI'd, AI or AI-S manual focus lenses
Simply cannot resist the MF pleasure and the feeling of an almost all metal body lens. This is just me.
Good lucky and excellent shots with your new lenses.

I love me some nice MF glass. I have the Zeiss 5 lens kit from BH we use for short films. LOVE LOVE LOVE them.

I'm thoroughly impressed with the 28/1.8 G, really tempted to move from my 105/2 to the 85/1.8 based on my experience with the 28 as a matter of fact. I'm a huge fan of the 105 focal length but I honestly don't find a killer difference between the DC lens and my lovely small 105/2.5 AI-s. Not that the 105/2 is a massive lens but it is pretty solid and has found itself left out of my bag alot lately.
For my AF glass my current ponderings are to go from this setup:
28/1.8 G
105/2 DC
180/2.8 AF (non-D)
80-200/2.8 AF-D
to:
28/1.8 G
85/1.8 G
70-200/4 G
Maybe throw in the 50/1.8 or 60/2.8 G as well. The 180/2.8 AF is only on the block due to picking up the AI-s version of the same lens, they are identical image quality wise (both amazing).
I guess what I am getting at is that I agree with you, the new AF-S 'G' glass is sweet. The weight is a definite plus, I wonder how they will hold up over time but I can't fault the one i own right now for anything.
